KUALA LUMPUR Nov 10, 2014:

Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang has called on Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to stop giving false hopes to the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) over the seized Malay Bibles issue.

In a statement today, Tan said that Azmin should make his intentions clear without any further delay.

“Last week, YB Azmin was reported to have hinted that the matter would be resolved within days.

“However, after a week, the Selangor state government has yet to return the Bibles.”

He added the Bibles were still with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and urged Azmin to be sincere on whether he would instruct Jais to release the Bibles.

“Azmin had already been in the Menteri Besar’s office for almost two months.

“How long more does he require before announcing whether he would instruct Jais to release the Bibles?”

He said it was highly unethical for Pakatan to remain silent over the matter, which may give people false hopes.

“The raid and seizure of the said Bibles by the Selangor government state agency had already caused anxiety and uneasiness among Christians and In Selangor, as well as other states in our country for over a year.”

Azmin had recently defended his calls for the seized Bibles to be returned to BSM as it is allowed under Islam.

His comments came following protests by Malay supremacy groups Perkasa and Isma that he was siding with the Christians.
