KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22, 2014:

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail pulled out of the race to become Selangor Menteri Besar after suggesting Mohamad Azmin Ali for the post to PKR’s Central Leadership Committee.

The PKR president, in a statement, said the committee met today and unanimously agreed with her suggestion.

Wan Azizah said she made the decision for the sake of the people with the realisation that the crisis had to be solved quickly.

“I am confident that PKR had defended the principles of constitutional democratic monarchy.

“Even though to me the appointment process did not follow the state law, I believe the focus now should return to the welfare of the people of Selangor.”

Wan Azizah said she accepted the decision of the Sultan of Selangor to appoint her deputy as the new Selangor MB “with an open heart”.

She then thanked all 29 State Assembly members from PKR, PAS and DAP that had supported her since Aug 14 and enabled PR to still control the state.

“I value the unity of this 29 members that put the people’s mandate first before themselves.”

Wan Azizah added that she suggested to the party leadership that the state government must carry out special programmes for the people of the state.
