PENGKALAN KUBOR, Sept 11, 2014:
PAS announced its Tumpat division secretary Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim as its candidate to wrest the Pengkalan Kubor state seat from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) grip in the upcoming by-election.
In an announcement made by Kelantan PAS commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yaakob here tonight, he said that Wan Rosdi’s experience as PAS’ state assembly coordinator in the past two terms qualified him to be the most suitable candidate for the Pengkalan Kubor state seat.
“He is a local from Bendang Pak Yong which is within the vicinity of the constituency and will attend to the people’s need successfully if elected,” the Kelantan Menteri Besar said during the announcement held near the Geting Mosque, here, tonight.
Meanwhile, PKR Tumpat division chief and former Pengkalan Kubor candidate Dr Saharun Ibrahim pledged his full support for the new candidate following the announcement.
“The PKR Tumpat division will pledge its full support to the new candidate as this is not only a mission for PAS but redemption for Pakatan Rakyat,” he said.
The announcement was made after BN announced 49-year-old Tumpat former assistant district officer (education division) Mat Razi Mat Ail as their candidate for the state seat, yesterday.
The Pengkalan Kubor by-election was announced following the death of Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar due to liver cancer in China on Aug 20.
Noor Zahidi, in the previous general election, beat PKR’s Saharun and Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary with a 1,736-vote majority.
The Election Commission set Sept 13 for nomination and Sept 25 for voting.
As of today, the EC announced that they have sold three nomination forms, throwing a possibility of a three-way battle for the state seat.
