KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10, 2014:

Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Abdullah Zaik Abd Rahman has suggested that PAS allow “Anwarinas” within the party to form a new party.

“Anwarinas” is a term some have used to note supporters of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“They should prove that they can live by their progressive and moderate policies.

“They can also prove that they are not using PAS’ Islamic image to market their liberal beliefs and to succeed on another party’s agenda.

“This is because they assume that PAS ulama’s thinking is extreme and chauvinistic like Isma’s.

“There is no way they can accept the leadership of ulama any more,” he said on his website, ismaweb yesterday.

Abdullah Zaik’s statement is believed to be in reference to reports of late on the existence of Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (Pasma), which is said to be a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

It had been reported that the NGO was formed by PAS members who want the Islamist party to remain within the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

The group was also claimed to be trying to determine who should hold important portfolios in the party, including wing chiefs and top posts in PAS.
