SHAH ALAM, July 8:
Selangor Backbenchers Club (BBC) has urged all parties to stop speculating on a change in the state’s Menteri Besar post, currently held by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
BBC chairman Mohamed Azmin Ali said instead everyone should focus on development issues in Selangor and not to entertain rumours.
“I urge everyone to stop speculating. Let’s urge the leaders and party members to focus on developing Selangor.
“In this holy month of Ramadan, we should not be spreading rumours.
“Do not make personal attacks.
“Let’s work as a team to help the rakyat,” he said to reporters after chairing the Selangor BBC meeting at the state secretariat building today.
According to Mohamed Azmin, the issue on changing the MB will only be discussed collectively.
He said this when asked to comment on the decision made at a meeting on Jan 15 this year to orchestrate the Kajang Move, which was then said to be for the purpose of changing the state’s MB.
“Our stand is not to continue speculating and not to spread rumours.
“In the meeting today, we discussed on how to further develop Selangor.
“This is our focus now,” he said, adding that their main concern right now is to carry out work which is in the best interests of the rakyat.
“The Kajang by-election is over and done. Decision was made and now it is time to work.
“When there is a need to discuss on the change, we will do it collectively,” said Mohamed Azmin, who is also Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman.
Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) head Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin is among the leaders in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) openly urging Abdul Khalid to resign as MB after the latter was defeated in the Kuala Selangor PKR division polls for the chairman’s post.
Meanwhile, as part of the speculation, Mohamed Azmin’s name was thrown into the hat to replace Abdul Khalid as MB. Another possible candidate is PAS’ Iskandar Samad.
