PETALING JAYA, June 26:
In a shocking turn of events today, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was defeated in the Kuala Selangor PKR division chief contest.
He lost to former Kapar Member of Parliament S. Manickavasagam, who won with 701 votes over Khalid’s 515 votes, according to Malaysiakini.
The report speculated that the results could lead to Khalid losing his support base.
For Manikavasagam, on the other hand, the win was seen as a revival after he was suspended from the party for making allegations of money politics against Khalid.
The suspension, however, was revoked earlier this month.
Manikavasagam held the post as Kapar MP from 2008 to 2013.
At the general election last year, he contested the Bukit Melawati state seat, but was defeated by Jakiran of Umno with a 806-vote majority.
Manikavasagam garnered 6,490 votes and Jakiran secured 7,296 votes.
