KUALA LUMPUR, June 15:
Residents in Kepong can breathe a sigh of relief as the Kepong Metropolitan Lake Gardens is set to see a multi-storey parking building in the near future.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib, who was present today at the park to launch the “Kuala Lumpur Ground, Air and Water Fiesta 2014”, said plans were currently under way to design the building.
“We are aware of the problems faced by the residents here who often come with their families during the weekends. Parking had always been the bane for them.
“We are in the midst of planning a building where visitors can park their vehicles.”
The building is set to be completed next year once the plan had been finalised.
Ahmad Phesal said security in the park would also be boosted.
A special area for stalls to sell snacks and other items will also be erected.
“We would also create a special designated area for buskers since busking has become the trend of late among the youth.”
Ahmad Phesal said these were among the plans by Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) to attract sports-related activities to the park.
“As long as the parks are used for sporting events and health-related activities, there will be less vandalism in parks.”
On another note, Ahmad Phesal said the 8,000-strong turn-out for the fiesta, the first of its kind, was a positive sign that will encourage DBKL to invite neighboring countries to take part in future events.
“For next year’s event, we will be inviting Thailand, Singapore and Brunei to take part.”
The fiesta, which was co-organised by DBKL and the Youth and Sports Ministry, saw motorboat races, an air show and water-sport-related activities.
