KUALA TERENGGANU, May 14:

Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said today described the political turmoil that occurred in the state over the past few days as a misunderstanding.

He said he had informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak of his daughter’s wedding on May 17 and had asked for Najib to postpone his resignation until after the wedding.

However, he said Najib had misunderstood as he thought the wedding had taken place on May 10 instead.

He said he forgave the prime minister for the misunderstanding over his daughter’s wedding.

“Najib thought the wedding was over on May 10, but actually there is a reception on the 17th and one more on the 31st in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

Ahmad said he had resigned from Umno as a matter of honour because of Najib’s refusal to respect his request.

He added that the matter had now been resolved as both parties had apologised to each other.

“I have retracted my decision to resign from the party, of which I have been a member since I was 18.”

Ahmad also pledged to fully support the leadership led by new Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.
