YOU could say that Animasia Animation Studio had a fruitful outing to the recent MIPCOM, the annual meeting of the players in the global entertainment industry.
Its show ABC Monsters has picked up to air on Comcast’s new Kid Genius channel, following a DVD launch in the United States this summer, and it has also inked a deal with London-based Zodiak Kids to co-produce a new animated series.
Inspired by a range of collectible blind bag figurines produced by De Agostini Publishing, the new series, called Magiki, will be co-produced with DeAgostini and Rainbow in Italy as well as Planeta in Spain.
Since the brand’s launch in 2009, Magiki has sold over 17 million products, including 11 collections of 120 characters across Europe and Zodiak Kids holds worldwide TV and licensing rights to the show.
According to an Animation World Network report, the show, aimed at children aged 4 to 7 years, follows a little girl named Ginger and the adventures she has in a magical kingdom where she becomes a princess because of her kind heart (http://www.awn.com/news/animasia-inks-co-production-deal-zodiak-kids).
The series follows Ginger as she uses her compassion and judgement to bring stability to an otherwise silly kingdom inhabited by animals, mermaids, unicorns and elves.
The production will be overseen by Eryk Casemiro, Zodiak Kids Studios chief creative officer, and Benoît Runel, Zodiak Kids Studios France managing director, together with Edmund Chan, Animasia Studio managing director and Raye Lee, Animasia Studio executive director, who will be executive producers on the new series.
Lee says: “It is going to be an exciting journey ahead for Animasia Studio as we will be working and partnering with some of the biggest names in the children content industry.”
Production will begin this summer at Zodiak’s Tele Images Productions, France and the series is set to be broadcasted in 2016/2017 on Lagardere’s Gulli in France and DeAgostini’s Deakids in Italy.
