DO some good for charity while you go out for a run.
Malaysian youth volunteer community iM4U is organising the Reach Out Run: Run for a Cause on June 14, as part of its Reach Out programme.
The event, which aims to attract over 5,000 runners from around Malaysia, is raising funds for organisations championing causes in four categories — health, special needs, community and animals.
Funds raised through the run will benefit the Dyslexia Association of Malaysia (PDM), SVM Welfare Association, Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary Foundation (LASSie) and Yayasan Jantung Malaysia (YJM).
Rapper Altimet, singer Soo Wincci and model Thanuja Ananthan as well as Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin have come in as the cause ambassadors, representing each organisation respectively.
“Representing the run as the cause ambassador for YJM, I urge our youth to support iM4U’s Reach Out Run as this programme is in line with my vision for Malaysia to become a sporting nation,” says Khairy, adding that it is a great opportunity for youth to kick-start a healthy lifestyle in sports and foster national unity.
Registration fees for the charity run are based on the running distance categories.
The 5km run is RM35 while the 10km run is RM45. A corporate group package for a 10-person team is RM1,000. A hundred per cent of the registration fees will go towards the beneficiary charity organisations.
While there are no cash prizes for the 5km category, there will be three prizes each in the Men’s and Women’s Open category for the 10km run.
The top three prizes in each category are RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000, with 10% going to the beneficiary charities.
“Reach Out Run will not only foster unity among Malaysians, but also act as a platform for participants to support selected charities. It is a great reflection of iM4U’s organisational pillars of community well-being and sports,” says Rudy Malik, iM4U chief operating officer.
To participate, log on to the iM4U website, select you running category and running distance, complete the registration form and follow the organiser’s social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (1m4youth) to keep up-to-date with information on the run.
Registration is open to all aged 18 and above (Malaysians and non-Malaysians) from now until April 30, or until the 5,000 slots are filled.
