KOTA BHARU, 15 May 2017:
A cat lover here has turned her home at Kampung Tok Sadang, Pengkalan Chepa into a day care centre for cats, to cater to the needs of other cat lovers and as an income generator for herself.
Suhaili Muhammad, 27, who holds a Biodiversity Conservation and Management degree from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu opened ‘Celly’s Cat House’ two years ago after observing that cat owners faced a dilemma whenever they had to work outside their home or leave home for a holiday.
“There are a lot of pet stores around but not many offer day care service. So I am capitalising on the situation to solve the problem for the cat owners and at the same time earn income from it.”
Her centre provides ‘hotel and spa’ facilities that could accommodate 30 cats.
“I get an enormous sense of satisfaction in taking care of cats. I am always full of energy when I begin my daily routine at 8am, to ensure that they are clean, healthy and active.”
She was nine years old when she got her first cat – which nurtured her passion for felines; she currently keeps 12.
The youngest of six siblings, the devoted cat owner treats all her feline customers as lovingly as she does her own pets and expresses this through providing “best service”.
“It further encourages me when their owners conveyed that they are satisfied with the services we provide and become our regular customers.
“I am really thankful that the centre is doing well; in fact, my customers even come from other areas such as Pasir Mas and Bachok,” said Suhaili who also has a diploma in Animal Health and Husbandry from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
She charges as low as RM10 a day for ‘accommodation’ inclusive of meals, and between RM25 and RM35 per pet for a grooming package.
“We also provide pickup and delivery service for customers’ convenience, which gives us an edge over other pet stores. We also provide cat mating service and free consultation.”
Also mother to a nine-month-old son, Suhaili entered her pets in various competitions. Her cats had brought home more than 10 titles.
She described family support, particularly from her husband, Mohamad Izzul Aman, 27, who also loves cats, as the driving force behind her enthusiasm. They are in the process of opening a pet shop.
