Laptop computers hardy enough to continue working fine – even after dropped from shoulder height multiple times and liquid spilled onto the keyboard – is heaven-sent for anyone constantly on the move, from students to executives.
Such are the latest offerings from Acer Malaysia – which launched its durable Chromebooks today, each weighing less than 1.5kg.
Better yet, the most basic model – the Chromebook 11 N7 C731 is available immediately for just RM999 – its a truly cloud computing device with 2GB onboard DDR3L memory and 16GB eMMC storage.
For those who want even better performance, there is a variant with 4GB of onboard DDR3L memory and 32GB eMMC storage – priced at RM1,099.00. Both variants come with one-year International Travellers Warranty.
These models are designed especially to be affordable to students, said Acer Sales & Services Sdn Bhd general manager of Products, Sales and Marketing, Chan Weng Hong at today’s launch.
He said such “military grade durability performance” Chromebooks has enabled Acer to offer the largest portfolio of Chrome devices, resulting in Acer leading the rapidly growing worldwide Chromebook market in 2016 with a 28% market share.
He said Acer recorded year-on-year global growth of 33% last year while overall PC sales slumped, “marking three consecutive years of leadership in this segment since 2014”.
For mobile executives who want even higher performance, Acer now offers the Chromebook 14 CP5-471 – which boasts of a top cover encased durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Like the basic 11-inch models, this computer’s keyboard and touchpad are designed to resist 330ml of liquid water spillage.
Similar to the basic models, it too can withstand up to 60kg of downward weight placed on the top cover and can withstand a drop from a height of up to 45 cm.
Being compliant with stringent US military standard MIL-STD 810G tests ensure extreme reliability and durability of these devices for business and commercial environments, said Chan.
The Acer Chromebook 14 CP5-471 comes with a three-year next business day On-site Warranty and is priced at RM2,299.
Meanwhile, the Chromebook R 11 738T – also launched today – is the first laptop that supports Google Play Apps.
Equipped with a 360-degree dual-torque hinge design and touch screen allows this versatile device to be used as a laptop, tablet or just for casual display – at a relatively affordable RM1,499.
For these Chromebooks’ launch, Acer is offering a 0% interest lease-to-use programme from RM42 per month, where customers can start using the devices for a period of 24 months. Acer is also offering to buy back customers’ old laptops or iPads to reduce up to three months of lease payments.
