GLaDOS, the snarky sentient AI that starred as antagonist in both “Portal” and “Portal 2,” has been recruited by NASA to help explain the difference between fusion and fission.
Voiced by actor Ellen McLain, GLaDOS joins a roster of special guests on NASA’s IRrelevant Astronomy series including George Takei (“Star Wars”), Mark Hamill (“Star Trek”), Linda Hamilton (“Terminator 2”), Dean Stockwell (“Quantum Leap”), and Sean Astin (“Lord of the Rings”).
Running since 2008, the series is centred around the work of NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope, an infrared space observatory in orbit around the sun since 2003 — hence the IRrelevant Astronomy’s irregular capitalisation.
GLaDOS’ one-shot role as public educator dovetails with her desire to take over the world — but first she’ll have to convince the lab techs to grant her server access.
