KOTA BHARU, 16 Feb 2017:
The Kelantan branch of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has ordered 48 supermarkets in the state to limit the purchase of subsidised cooking oil to only 2kg per customer within the next two weeks to overcome the current shortage of cooking oil in the market.
Director Datuk Ab Ghani Harun said the order, which was issued after the meeting with supermarket operators and cooking oil suppliers yesterday, took effect immediately.
“During the two-week period, we will carry out monitoring activity and station our officers at the supermarkets to ensure compliance and effectiveness of the move.”
A Ghani said investigations and stern action would be taken against individuals found to have purchased cooking oil in large quantities without valid reasons.
At the same time, he said only licenced retailers and wholesalers would be allowed to purchase cooking oil from the suppliers in the state, but the purchase would be limited to only five boxes (85kg) each, during the two-week period.
