SEREMBAN, April 15, 2015: Malaysians are urged to take 10 minutes of their time at 10am on April 23, 2015 to read in conjunction with the World Book and Copy Right Day 2015.
Dubbed “Jom Baca”, the programme organised by the National Library hopes to inculcate the reading habit among Malaysians.
“I hope Malaysians take the time off from whatever they are doing at that time to read any reading material,” Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan said.
He had earlier unveiled the programme, which started last year, at Wisma Negeri here today.
“However, don’t read while driving at that time just because I said so,” Mohamad quipped, drawing laughter from reporters.
Mohamad hoped that the programme would sow the reading habit among Malaysians, especially the young.
“According to studies, Europeans are known to read 13 books per year while Malaysians only read one-third of a book a year,
“I hope to see more reading through this programme.”
The programme is jointly organised by the Librarian Association of Malaysia (PPM) and Malaysian Public Libraries Directors Council (MPAM).
It is set to be held at all 14 state libraries nationwide.
